How To Search For Text In Mac Preview

Whether you're a die-hard Windows fan or simply a Mac user required to occasionally use Windows, it's hard to argue against the fact that Mac OS X has some killer features. Here's how to get the best of them on Windows.

Apple’s Preview has a handy search feature that will show you all occurrences of a particular search term in list format on the left sidebar, which appears after you perform a search. In Preview, simply choose Find from the Edit menu and type your phrase in the Find field at the top of the document. Sep 10, 2016  Of course you could first locate a PDF file, then search within that opened PDF file for a matched term using the Preview trick outlined here. Search in PDF Files on Mac within Preview. Preview for Mac can search within PDF files for matching text, phrases, words, or other terms. It’s extremely fast even when searching within large PDF documents.

If you're a Mac user that has to use Windows at work, needs Boot Camp for a few specific programs, or if you're one of the few that's actually switched from Mac to Windows (instead of the other way around), it can be hard to get used to some of Windows' idiosyncracies. There are no shortage of ways to make Windows look like a Mac, but what about making it act like a Mac? Here are some ways to get OS X's best features in Windows—from simple keyboard shortcuts to system-level niceties like Exposé, Spaces, and multitouch gestures.

Exposé and Spaces

Exposé and Spaces are two of the best window-managing features around, but neither of them really has a built-in equivalent in Windows 7. Previously mentionedDexpot will give you them and a lot more. You can get an Exposé-like overview of your open windows, view and manage multiple virtual desktops, replace your Alt+Tab switcher with Dexpot's, and even toggle things like your screensaver with the press of a button. It's a really great app, whether you're trying to Mac-ify your Windows desktop or not.

Just install it and right-click on its System Tray icon to tweak its many settings. The Spaces-like virtual desktops are its main feature, but you can also find the Exposé-like overview under Dexpot Components > Window Calalogue on the Controls menu. You can even set all the keyboard shortcuts to match the ones you're used to in OS X. Sadly, Win+Right and Win+Left (which are what will correspond to Mac's Ctrl+Right and Ctrl+Left, in this case), are already taken by Aero Snap, so you can't use them for Spaces out of the box. You can either turn off Aero Snap if you don't use it, or change it to something similar like Alt+Right and Alt+Left, This is something you may run into with other shortcuts, too, so just tweak them accordingly.

Quick Look

Sadly, there's nothing quite as great as Mac's Quick Look available for Windows, but there are a few similar features. Windows 7's built-in Quick Look alternative is the preview pane in Windows explorer. Just open up Windows explorer and click the 'show preview pane button' on the right, and you'll get a third pane that will show thumbnails for images and play music files.

Your other option, which is more like Quick Look but still not quite as useful, is the Quick Look clone contained in previously mentionedMaComfort. It won't let you flip through documents, and its image previews are pretty small, but it will suffice for many situations (and it plays music files well). It works exactly like on OS X: MaComfort sits in your system tray, and all you need to do to Quick Look a file is to highlight its icon and hit the spacebar.

Note that MaComfort is actually a program designed to bring Mac's best features—like Spaces, Exposé, and Quick Look—to Windows, but I've found that the rest of the program isn't very good. Dig around through it if you want to see what it offers, but I'd recommend turning most of its features off and using the ones I recommend above instead. They're much better.

The Dock

While the Windows 7 taskbar is often lauded as better than the Dock, the Dock does have some nice features, like Stacks. If you want a more Mac-like Dock on your desktop, you'll definitely want to try out previously mentionedRocketDock. RocketDock is pretty similar to OS X's dock in a lot of ways: you can launch applications, view folders, or even minimize windows to it. It's pretty configurable, too, letting you tweak it just how you want. It also has a great plugin infrastructure, which lets you add 'docklets' that give you extra themes and features, like this one that mimics Stacks on OS X. It probably won't replace your Windows taskbar completely, but it'll give you back some of those features you miss from OS X's Dock without bogging down your system.

Keyboard Shortcuts

If you're used to OS X, the first thing you've probably noticed on Windows is that all your keyboard shortcuts have changed. If you've burned them into your muscle memory, it can be pretty hard to change them back again, and even if you aren't used to the ones on OS X, many find them to be faster than Windows' anyways, so you may want to change them. Here are a few ways to get fast, Mac-like shortcuts on Windows.

Putting Ctrl, Alt, and Command in Their Place

The biggest change from Windows to Mac is the position of the Ctrl, Alt, and Command or Windows keys. The best way to switch these is to dig into the Windows registry itself. However, that's a little annoying, so we'll use a portable program calledSharpKeys to do it for us.

Disable and Remap Any Key with SharpKeys

Windows only: Sick of accidentally hitting the Caps Lock key when you never intentionally use it?…

Just download the zipped version of SharpKeys and run it to configure your keyboard. If you have a Windows-based keyboard, you'll want to map Ctrl to the Alt key, Alt to the Win key, and Win to the Ctrl key to keep things as similar to OS X as possible.

Now that you've remapped all these keys, the terminology for keyboard shortcuts might leave you a bit confused. For the remainder of this article, I'm going to refer to Windows shortcuts as their original keys, not their remapped version. So, Ctrl+C will still be referred to as Ctrl+C, not Alt+C, which is what it will look like if you watch your hands. Furthermore, remember that Ctrl usually does what Command does on a Mac, for the purposes of these instructions. Photo by Declan Jewell.

Changing Unfamiliar Shortcuts with AutoHotkey

Now, many of your keyboard shortcuts—like Ctrl+C for copy or Ctrl+T to open a new browser tab—should feel more like what you're used to. However, there are others that won't. On Windows, Alt+Tab opens the application switcher instead of Ctrl+Tab, so your muscle memory will be off. To fix this, you'll need the ever-useful and insanely powerful AutoHotkey. We won't go into too much detail on how to use it here, but you can really dig into the program using our original guide.

A great example is Alt+Tab, since the window switcher function is built-in to AutoHotkey. To change Windows' Alt+Tab shortcut to Ctrl+Tab, just create a new AutoHotkey script. Once you have AutoHotkey installed, you can do this by right-clicking anywhere and going to New > AutoHotkey Script. Enter in the following text:

Drag that script to your Windows Startup folder, and it will run every time your computer boots. From then on, Cmd+Tab should act like it does in OS X. For more info on how to set up AutoHotkey shortcuts, check out the AutoHotkey documentation.

Keep in mind, also, that you can customize a lot of shorcuts from within the app they correspond to. So, for example, if you're used to Cmd+Shift+4 for taking screenshots, you can just head into the preferences of a screenshot program like Lightscreen to change the 'take screenshot' shortcut to Ctrl+Shift+4.

For more ideas, check out this table of keyboard shortcuts on Wikipedia. It will show you both the Mac OS and Windows version of any given shortcut, so you can remap them to match each other. Again, remember that Command on Mac will be Control on Windows if you've remapped your keys as I describe above, since Windows technically has no Command key. Sadly, not every keyboard shortcut will map exactly the same way—make sure Windows isn't already using a specific key combination for something before you go and map it.

Multitouch Gestures

Most laptops have multitouch-capable trackpads, but not all of them have the great multitouch gestures that Mac OS X has baked in. If you need to get your two-finger scrolling fix, there are a few things you can do.

If all you want is two-finger scrolling and a few tap gestures (likely the most used gesture in OS X), you can grab TwoFingerScroll, a small utility that sits in your system tray and turns on two-finger scrolling for your trackpad. It's pretty configurable, too, so you can tweak exactly how fast and smooth you scroll. You can also assign certain actions to two- and three-finger taps, which is nice. If you want the full treatment—such as three-finger gestures and more—check out our full how-to on setting up multitouch gestures in Windows.

Unfocused Scrolling

It's a small annoyance, but one of the biggest problems I had with Windows was that you can only scroll up and down with the scroll wheel on the window that's in focus. In OS X, you can scroll in whatever window your cursor is hovering over, even if it isn't the front window. A great little utility called KatMouse fixes this problem beautifully. Just install it, let it run at startup, and scrolling will work everywhere.

A *nix Command Line

One of Windows' biggest weaknesses—especially for people who like to do a little developing—is its command prompt, and if you're used to the Terminal on OS X, it's even worse. If you need to do any command line work, you'll definitely want to pick up Cygwin for Windows and learn how to use it. It will give you a much more powerful Unix-style command line, which is great for digging down into files and performing operations you can't from the graphical interface.

You'll never be able to get Windows working exactly like OS X, but you probably wouldn't want to. We all use text editors to take notes, save web addresses, write code, as well as other uses. Every operating system comes with a default, basic text editor, but most of us install our own enhanced text editors to get more features.

In this article, we’ve gathered links to many different text editors used for different purposes. You can use text editors for basic text editing and taking notes, writing programming code, producing LaTeX documents, writing a book, among many other uses.

Notepad and WordPad Replacements

Are you looking for more capabilities than the default Notepad in Windows? Would you rather use a graphical text editor in Linux, rather than the built-in vi? There are many options for useful text editors out there.

Some employ a tabbed interface, such as Jarte (which is based on the WordPad word processing engine and integrates easily with WordWeb), EditPad Lite (which also has the automatic backup), and Notetab Light (which can also calculate the value of mathematical expressions entered in the program). Jarte, EditPad Lite, and Notetab Light are all only available for Windows. Jarte is also available as a portable program.

Typically, Vi is the default text editor in Linux operating systems and it’s a keyboard intensive program with no graphical user interface (GUI). A good text editor for Windows that has hotkeys available for its 312 text-processing functions, innovative features, and timesaving tools is TED Notepad, which is also available as a portable program. Emacs is also available for both Windows and Linux, and is customizable. It also includes a file compare utility and a file manager. You can also add Org-mode to Emacs, which is a personal information management and outlining tool. If you prefer text editors with GUIs, Vim and gEdit are both good options and are available. Vim is essentially the graphical version of Vi. For help editing text files in Vi or Vim, see our Beginner’s Guide.

GetDiz is a Notepad replacement for Windows that allows you to edit many text files quickly from within Windows Explorer and has enhanced functionality for dealing with DIZ and NFO files. It can also display ASCII art correctly. Another ASCII text formatter for Windows is TextMorph, which can also convert text to and from HTML and clean up emails (remove all the “>” symbols, etc.), and search and replace by words or multiple paragraphs.

Programmer’s Text Editors

There are many text editors that provide useful functionality for programmers. Most support syntax highlighting for many programming languages, multiple document editing, and are extendable with plugins. Some also allow editing of remote files through FTP.

PSPad not only supports syntax highlighting, but also matching bracket highlighting for most popular programming languages. It also has a hex editor, macro recorder, and a differencing tool. PSPad also easily integrates with the free version of the TopStyle CSS editor. Notepad++ also supports bracket highlighting and macro recording. It also supports syntax folding and is highly customizable through plugins using the included plugin manager. Both PSPad and Notepad++ are only available for Windows.

The cross-platform (Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X) editor, jEdit, supports syntax highlighting for over 200 programming languages and auto indent, as well as a differencing utility, an FTP browser, and block selecting. It is also extendable using plugins and macros, and there are hundreds of plugins and macros available through the built-in plugin manager feature.

Programmer’s Notepad for Windows supports syntax highlighting using schemes, both built-in and user-defined, code folding and outlining, a tabbed interface with multi-level split views, and the ability to export to HTML (using CSS) and RTF.

If you like the Vi editor in Linux, but prefer a graphical editor that also serves well as a programmer’s text editor, Editra and Komodo Edit are good options. They both provide Vi emulation, as well as support for syntax highlighting in many programming languages and code folding. Editra has a tabbed interface, allows block (un)commenting and (un)indenting, and is extendable using the built-in plugin downloader/installer. Komodo Edit supports background syntax checking and contains a toolbox with shell command integration, macros, and code snippets. Both Editra and Komodo Edit are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

Other options include the following:

  • Crimson Editor – A very small editor for Windows containing a directory tree view window
  • Geany – A small and fast IDE for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X that supports code folding, code navigation, a build system, and a plugin interface
  • Notepad2 – A fast, light-weight text editor like Notepad for Windows with syntax highlighting and runs as a portable program

Microsoft Word Replacements

There are also free programs that act as replacements for Microsoft Word. They can be used as text editors, but they have more formatting features than simple text editors. You can add images and tables, change fonts and color, and insert hyperlinks.

AbiWord runs on Windows and Linux and can read and write OpenOffice.org documents, Microsoft Word documents, WordPerfect documents, Rich Text Format documents, and HTML web pages. It has advanced document layout options such as tables, bullets, numbered lists, images, styles, footnotes, and endnotes. It even has a Mail Merge utility like Microsoft Word. You can extend AbiWord with a variety of plugins, which can be selected when you install AbiWord. A portable version is also available that you can run from a USB flash drive.

Angel Writer is a small rich text editor for Windows with a high performance rate that allows you to easily create impressive documents.

Minimalist Text Editors

If you get distracted when you write by the plethora of features in text editors and word processors, you might want to try one of the so-called “minimalist” text editors out there. They are “no-frills” editors that either don’t offer any formatting features or many of the other features of modern word processors, and even third-party text editors, or the features are hidden until you want them. Without all the fancy features staring you in the face, you can concentrate on the task of writing. Below is a list of some of the minimalist text editors we found.

  • Dark Room– Available for Windows, requires .NET Framework 2.0, and is available as a portable program.
  • JDarkRoom– Available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X
  • Q10– Available for Windows and as a portable program
  • CopyWriter– Available for Windows and as a portable program
  • WriteMonkey– Available for Windows and as a portable program
  • Bookwrite– Available for Windows and Linux
  • Scribes– Available for Linux
  • FocusWriter – Available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, and as a portable program for Windows

You can even download Word 5.5 from Microsoft for free and run it under DOSBox in Windows.

Mac version of notepad

If you want a simple text editor with the ability to count down from a set word count, try yEdit2 for Windows. If you have to write a certain number of words, yEdit2 can make it easier.

Secure Text Editors

You can also use a text editor as secure place to store private information. There are several text editors that either include encryption as a feature or are specially designed for securely storing text. Notepad++, mentioned in the Programmer’s Text Editors section above, allows you to add encryption functionality using the SecurePad plugin, which is available through the Plugin Manager. SecurePad will encrypt selected text in the current document or the whole document.

Steganos LockNote is a small, simple method for securely storing chunks of information in files. For example, if you purchase a download-only program, you can use LockNote to store the product key or serial number that goes with that program in the same folder, so you always know where to find it.

  • CryptNote – Available for Windows and as a portable program
  • CryptoTE– Available for Windows and Linux, and as a portable program for Windows
  • NotepadCrypt– Available for Windows as a portable program
  • Xint– Available for Windows
  • f0dder’s fSekrit – Available for Windows and as a portable program

LaTeX Editors

Free notepad for mac download

Do you write a lot of scientific papers, documents, or books? If so, there are several text editors that allow you to easily use TeX/LaTeX (document markup language and document preparation system) through a graphical interface to create mathematical content and structured documents like academic articles, theses, and books.

  • LaTeX Editor (LEd)– Available for Windows and as a portable program
  • LyX– Available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X
  • WinEdt– Available for Windows
  • TeXstudio– Available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X and as a portable program on Windows and Mac OS X
  • Texmaker – Available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X

Novel Writing Editor

There’s even an editor that’s meant for writing novels, called yWriter5, available for Windows and Linux. It breaks your novel into chapters and scenes, helping you to keep track of your work. However, yWriter5 does not suggest plot ideas, character names, or write any part of your novel for you. The creative task of writing is still up to you, yWriter5 just makes it easier.

One more text editor to mention is Nano in Linux, which is an easy-to-use text editor you run directly on the command line. Nano is installed by default in Ubuntu and many other Linux distros, and is easier to learn than Vi or emacs.

If the text box is empty, it automatically joins the last thread you selected if a thread already exists, or creates a new thread if you haven't created a thread yet. To change which thread a text box belongs to, click or tap the number, then choose a different thread in the menu.

If you’ve locked or grouped a text box with other objects, make sure you unlock or ungroup it before you try to link it with another text box.

If you have multiple text boxes in the same thread, click the circle at the top then choose Create New Thread to remove it from its existing thread and start its own new thread.

* For linked text boxes using vertical text, the circles showing the threads appear at the right side of the text box. A linked text box thread can have a mix of both vertical and horizontal text boxes.

Reorder text boxes in a thread

Text boxes only flow text from earlier pages to later pages. When a thread spans multiple pages, its text automatically reflows when you move a text box to another page. This makes sure the text flows naturally from page to page.

When a thread has multiple text boxes on the same page, you can change their order in the thread. To change the order of text boxes, click or tap the circle at the top of the box, then:

  • On your Mac or in iCloud, move your pointer over the current thread in the menu (it has a checkmark beside it).
  • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap the current thread.

Choose a new order number to insert this text box into that part of the order. The thread's text updates automatically.

Unlink or delete a text box

When you unlink or delete a linked text box, the thread’s contents is reflowed in the remaining text boxes

To unlink a text box, click or tap the circle then choose “Remove from Thread.'

If you unlink the only text box in a thread, it keeps the content and becomes a standard text box.

To delete a text box, select the text box and press Delete. If you delete the only text box in a thread, the text box and its contents are deleted.

After you link a text box, it is set to “Stay on Page” in the Document Inspector > Arrange > Object Placement menu. This makes sure you can control where you position your threads.

Buttons

Everything you see in Office for Mac is on a layer, where some layers are closer to you than others. Farthest away from you is the background layer. The next layer is the text layer. Any additional objects, such as pictures, WordArt, shapes, or text boxes that are added, are placed in layers closer to you with each additional object. With Office 2011’s tools, you can format the background, group objects together into a single layer, control the order of the layers of selected objects, and even rotate or flip objects.

Formatting the background layer in Office

Scroll Text Boxes For Myspace

The layer that’s farthest to the back is the background layer. You can access the background by the following three methods:

  • Word: Follow these steps:

    1. Click the Ribbon’s Layout Tab. In the Page Background group, click Color. In the pop-up menu, choose Fill Effect.

    2. In the Resulting Fill Effects dialog, click the Picture option.

    3. Click the Select Picture button to display the Choose a Picture dialog.

    4. Choose a picture to use as the document background.

  • Excel: Choose Format→Sheet→Background. In the resulting Choose a Picture dialog, choose a picture to use as the worksheet’s background.

  • PowerPoint: Choose Format→Slide Background to display the Format Background dialog.

Arranging the layers in Office files

Until Office 2011, to arrange the order of objects in the layers above the text layer, you would right-click an object and choose one of four Arrange options:

  • Bring to Front

  • Send to Back

  • Bring Forward (one layer)

  • Send Backward (one layer)

Of course, you can still do this in Office 2011, and these options are now available on the Format tab of the Ribbon.

Word’s Publishing Layout view and PowerPoint’s Normal view have the new Dynamic Reorder objects feature that relieves you of the burden of keeping track of the order of your objects. A simple, intuitive interface displays your objects in order, numbered beginning with the number 1 as the layer on top, the one that’s closest to you. You can simply drag any layer to a new position in the order.

If you want, you can restrict the objects being reordered to only those objects that overlap each other: In the Arrange group of the Format tab, click Reorder Overlapping Objects.

Text Boxes For Myspace

Rotating and flipping layers in Office 2011

The Rotate button (found in the Format tab’s Arrange group) offers options that allow for rotation in specified increments:

Command Buttons

  • Rotate Right 90 Degrees

  • Rotate Left 90 Degrees

  • Flip Vertical

  • Flip Horizontal

Grouped objects behave unpredictably with these controls. You may need to ungroup the objects, use the controls, and then regroup everything.

I Can't Delete A Text Box In Excel For Mac

Apr 05, 2012  Excel Questions; Can't delete TextBox on Chart; Become a Registered Member. Somehow, I accidentally created a TextBox on the embedded chart. I can't 'cut' the TextBox to remove it, and I don't see a delete. I can move it all around inside the chart, but can't move it outside the chart. I am able to change the text in the box. On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Text Box, and then select one of the pre-formatted text boxes from the list, click More Text Boxes from Office.com, or click Draw Text Box. If you click Draw Text Box, click in the document, and then drag to draw the text box the size that you want. Hi Experts, I need to place text boxes on top of a graph/chart, however, if I print or pdf the document the text boxes move out of place. I've tried grouping the text boxes but I can't seem to include the chart in the group. Jan 20, 2017  Yes, text boxes and c ontent in cells below a table move with table insert/delete rows. However, text boxes or content in cells beside a table do not. What I was looking for was a way to lock or anchor a text box to a particular cell or worksheet row.

But whenever I press the Enter key, the cell editing ends and the cursor moves to next cell. How can I avoid this?

What you want to do is to wrap the text in the current cell. You can do this manually by pressing Alt + Enter every time you want a new line

Or, you can set this as the default behaviour by pressing the Wrap Text in the Home tab on the Ribbon. Now, whenever you hit enter, it will automatically wrap the text onto a new line rather than a new cell.

You have to use Alt+Enter to enter a carriage return inside a cell.

  1. Edit a cell and type what you want on the first 'row'
  2. Press one of the following, depending on your OS:

    Windows:Alt + Enter

    Mac:Ctrl + Option + Enter

  3. Type what you want on the next 'row' in the same cell
  4. Repeat as needed.

I Can't Delete A Text Box In Excel For Mac Free

Note that inserting carriage returns with the key combinations above produces different behavior than turning on Wrap Text. In the screenshot below, column A has the carriage returns and column B has Wrap Text turned on. Changing the width of a column with carriage returns doesn't remove them. Changing the width of a column with Wrap Text turned on will change where the lines break.

Alt + Enter never worked for me. I had to go to Format Cells and make sure that the Number tab was set to Text. That allowed me to see exactly as I had input. My issue could have been Mac specific though.

Word For Mac Text Box Keeps Slipping To Margin

Mac
Active3 months ago

Page margins are the white space around the top, bottom, left, and right of your document. Margins let Word know where to start placing text at the top of a document, when to move on to the next page at the bottom, where to start typing text on the left side, and where to stop and move to the next line on the right. In Word 2003, choose Text Box from the Drawing toolbar (View, Toolbars, Drawing). Use the mouse to drag and drop a text box of the approximate size in the margin. Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes up layout (Possible OpenType.otf Font bug) I am having severe problems with Word 2016, as it does not print the document layout correctly as it somehow messes up the margin when printing.

You're problem is page indenting.

Ill show you a few examples of why this is happening.

When you do first line indent:

Hanging Indent:

Left Indent:

Go to all of your paragraphs and realign them back to 0 on the ruler. Then adjust your indents to your liking.

Don't forget about fixing your margins

I had a similar problem with a single paragraph in a long Word document. I just copied sentence segments from the offending paragraph into the text section that was properly formatted, then when all had been copied into the correct margin setup I erased the original text in the offending section and cut what was left of the original paragraph, now blank.

The text cursor, or caret, is normally in the visible form in applications at the start of its display cycle. It then goes to the flashing sequence once you stop moving it with arrow keys or typing. However, in Word 2011 I'm constantly frustrated because the cursor disappears, or defaults to the invisible state of the flashing sequence, while I'm typing or moving it. This makes it painfully difficult to edit text without using the mouse. As I write this post and keep going back to word I'm noticing that it seems erratic as to what behavior it's acting. I think that it stays in whichever state it was last in, which 50% of the time is invisible.

I've since changed the blink rate to 200ms via changing the default in Word's plist file. This helps a little in my frustration, but the behavior really needs fixed.

Update 2014-09-02
It doesn't appear to be a problem on documents created locally. It seems to be an issue with documents I've got from elsewhere, quite possibly from other operating systems.

I noticed the problem when I tried working on a document I created working on a PC using Windows 8. So your theory on operating systems may be valid.

I opened a blank document and copied the content out of the dysfunctional one and voila... my cursor came back.

copywritercopywriter

In my case, the copy/paste of the document did not work. But after a bunch of tries, I found a workaround:

Move the mouse pointer outside the Table area!

Yeah I know it sounds weird. But if I use the keyboard arrows to move the cursor in a table cell while the mouse pointer is located inside that table, the cursor will annoyingly start disappearing.

This seems related to the Move icon appearing in the upper-left corner of the table when you move in the mouse pointer, which keeps switching on/off when you use the keyboard.

BTW I'm using Word 2011 v14.4.8 (latest as of now).

dbernarddbernard

If it's not affecting locally created documents, could it have to do with Compatibility mode? Try re-saving the doc in the latest native .docx format and re-opening.

samhsamh

I had the same issue but it was solved easy. You are probably using a .docx extension if you save as your file to a .doc format the issue will go. I did not test but i think it will work if your original file is a .doc format and you save it as a .docx.

NajibNajib

My screw up appeared to be from copy from gmail into word doc for mac yosemite, google search that worked was: copy the faulty doc into a new 'local' file. fixed it.

How Do You Curve Text In Powerpoint For Mac

  1. How Do You Curve Text On Silhouette
  2. How To Curve Text In Powerpoint For Mac
  3. How Do You Curve Text In Photoshop

You can use WordArt with a Transform text effect to partially curve or bend text around a shape. If you want the text to circle the shape, you can also do this, but it’s a little bit more work. If you want the text to circle the shape, you can also do this, but it’s a little bit more work. Is there some key combination that will allow me to modify (click/drag) the Text Box containing my text to create a curve. I found the rotate commands but nothing for my current need. I have previously done this by using Word, creating the necessary text in WordArt and then copying it to my Pages document. When you find the right curve, select it. Select the text and open the Home tab. Use the tools in the Font area to format the text. Note that the curve doesn't show once you select the text box; it defaults to regular text. However, the curve is still there and will show again when you click out of the box.

If you're like me, you're always on the lookout for interesting ways to draw attention to a specific point or object in a slide. When a bold rubber stamp type emphasis is needed, you might try drawing a circle around the object or text—right before the audience's eyes. It's easy and it certainly gets the job done.

First, you need an object or text—something you want emphasized! Remember, this is a rather loud effect, so the message should be equally as bold. (The yellow is just the selection color.)

The next step is to draw a circular AutoShape over the object by clicking Oval on the Drawing toolbar and dragging inside the slide. In PowerPoint 2007 and 2010, AutoShape is on the Home tab in the Drawing group. Hold down the [Shift] key when you insert the AutoShape to force PowerPoint to draw a circle rather than an oval.

The default AutoShape will require a little formatting, so right-click the circle and choose Format AutoShape (or Format Shape) from the context menu. On the Colors and Lines tab, set the settings that follow and click OK. (In PowerPoint 2007 and 2010, select Fill, Line Color, and Line Style from the list on the left.)

  • Fill Color: No Fill
  • Line Color: Red, or some other bold color
  • Line Weight: 2 pt or higher.

After formatting the circle, you'll probably need to move it around a bit. The text in the circle below is centered.

Now you're ready to add the animation that will actually draw the circle. There are several ways to go, but the following instructions will draw the circle in a single stroke automatically (no clicking required):

  1. Right-click the circle and choose CustomAnimation.
  2. From the Add Effect dropdown, choose Entrance.
  3. Select Wheel—click More Effects if Wheel isn't available from the short list. In PowerPoint 2007 and 2010, click the Animation tab and choose Wheel from the Animation group.
  4. From the Start dropdown, choose With Previous.

This simple but effective attention-getter took almost no work! To see the result, click [F5]. There's no red circle at first, but as soon as PowerPoint plays the slide, it starts to draw the circle from the top center.

Feel free to experiment with the settings. The Spokes setting determines the number of line segments drawn simultaneously. Depending on your audience and message, you might want to speed this one up a bit—even Very Fast probably isn't too fast for this specific example.

  5. From the Spokes dropdown, choose 1. In PowerPoint 2007 and 2010, click the Effect Options dropdown in the Animation group.
